Bringing your puppy home: the first week

Demo article — written from our puppy agreement and care notes. Edit or replace it in the admin under Journal.
The day your puppy comes home is the start of a whole new chapter, for them and for you. Our puppies have spent eight weeks under-foot in our home, so the move to their fur-ever family is a big change. A calm, predictable first week makes all the difference.
Before pickup day
- Pet insurance. We recommend starting it within 14 days before your puppy comes home and keeping it at least the first year, while they chew and taste everything.
- Food. Our puppies are raised on a species-appropriate diet: raw or freeze-dried raw. Have the same food ready so their tummy doesn’t have to adjust along with everything else.
- A quiet spot. A crate with a soft bed, a few toys and water, somewhere they can see you.
What your puppy already knows
Every Crème Brûlée puppy leaves us litter box trained, doggie door trained and crate trained, with a default Safety-Recall imprinted. Keep using the same routines at home and you’ll build on what they’ve learned rather than starting over.
The first five days
- Vet visit within 5 days. Have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian to confirm they’re in good, sound health. Bring the medication record we give you at pickup.
- Keep it calm. Short play sessions, lots of naps, and gentle introductions to new people and pets.
- Stick to a schedule. Meals, potty breaks and bedtime at the same times each day help them settle quickly.
Looking ahead
Please wait until after two years of age to spay or neuter; it matters for healthy growth, and it keeps your full two-year health guarantee in place. Avoid strenuous exercise and big jumps while their joints are still growing.
And one last request from Grandma: open an Instagram account for your furbaby, so we can watch them grow. 💛
